Honda is recalling 2020-2023 Ridgeline, Pilot, Passport, and Civic models, plus 2020 Acura MDX vehicles, due to improper assembly of the brake booster fastener. This defect can cause the brake master cylinder to separate, resulting in loss of brake function.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural brake system defect capable of causing loss of brake function and increased crash risk. No illnesses, injuries, or crashes have been reported in the source. The hazard is described theoretically (can cause), fitting the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Honda Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, 2020-2021 Civic, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles due to a manufacturing defect in the brake booster assembly. The affected models were produced during a period when tie rod fasteners connecting the brake booster and brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled. A total of 124,077 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The improper assembly can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly. This separation can result in a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.
