Search tips
The search index covers titles, summaries, product names, brand and manufacturer names, lot codes, UPC codes, and the recall number itself. If you know any of those, you can paste them in raw — recall number 25V123000 or UPC 012345678901 both work.
For broader queries, wrap multi-word phrases in quotes ("baby formula") to force them to match adjacent. Prefix a term with - to exclude it (spinach -organic). Use OR to widen (airbag OR seatbelt). The filter chips on the results page narrow further by agency, category, and minimum severity.
Common false positives: searching for a brand name will catch every recall mentioning that brand even if the brand isn’t the recalled party (a contract manufacturer using a brand-name ingredient). When in doubt, narrow with the agency filter — a Listeria hit on the FDA stream is a different conversation from one on the USDA stream.
