EGL and ACE Youth All-Terrain Vehicles Recalled for Safety Standard Violations
EGL Motor is recalling about 2,900 EGL and ACE branded youth ATVs (models MADIX 125 and D110) because they fail federal safety standards, allowing children to exceed safe speeds and creating laceration and crash hazards.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Although no injuries or deaths have been reported, the recall involves a risk-of-harm product (youth ATVs) with structural and design defects that explicitly pose a risk of serious injury or death to children, including crash hazards and laceration hazards. This meets the High severity criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
EGL Motor Inc. is recalling approximately 2,900 EGL and ACE branded youth all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), specifically models MADIX 125 and D110. The product name is printed on a label on both sides of the vehicle, and the model number is stamped into a metal plate on the left side under the rear body. These ATVs were sold in Age 12+ and Age 16+ versions.
The youth ATVs fail to comply with federal mandatory ATV safety standards. Children can operate the vehicles above the maximum allowed speed, which increases the risk of a crash that could cause serious injuries. The handlebars pose a laceration hazard if the child rider's body or head impacts them at high speed during a crash. Additionally, the parking brake does not prevent the vehicle from moving at the minimum required steepness of slope.
The recalled ATVs were sold nationwide through authorized dealerships including Triple J Import, AWL Distribution, D&M Motorsports, and other authorized dealerships between July 2020 and March 2021 for between $650 and $850. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact EGL Motor to schedule a no-cost full repair at an authorized repair shop. The company can be reached toll-free at 866-496-9919 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or online at http://www.eglmotor.us/recall.html or www.eglmotor.us (click "RECALL" at the top of the page).
