Polaris Model Year 2022 Snowmobiles Recalled for Crash Hazard
Polaris Industries is recalling approximately 7,400 Model Year 2022 MATRYX snowmobiles because the throttle release switch can fail to disengage or the throttle cable can be kinked, posing a crash hazard.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product recall where the throttle malfunction poses a crash hazard with potential for serious injury. Although no injuries have been reported, the hazard—loss of vehicle control—is significant and directly associated with the product defect, placing this at the High threshold.
Plain-English summary
This recall involves certain Model Year 2022 MATRYX RMK, INDY, SWITCHBACK, VOYAGEUR, and NORDIC PRO snowmobiles manufactured by Polaris Industries Inc. of Medina, Minnesota. About 7,400 units were sold nationwide through Polaris dealers between December 2019 and January 2022, priced between $13,300 and $19,700.
The throttle release switch (TRS) can fail to disengage when the throttle lever is released. If a stuck throttle condition occurs when the TRS fails to disengage, it can lead to loss of vehicle control, posing a crash hazard. Additionally, on certain Model Year 2022 MATRYX RMK snowmobiles, the throttle cable can be kinked during installation, which can lead to damage of the throttle cable during operation and impairment of throttle function, also posing a crash hazard.
Polaris has received four reports of kinked throttle cables and three reports of a stuck throttle. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free inspection and, if needed, an adjustment of the throttle control assembly and/or repair to replace the throttle cable (for MATRYX RMK only). Consumers can contact Polaris at 800-765-2747 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.polaris.com/en-us/off-road-recalls/ and enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) to verify if their vehicle is included in the recall.
