Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported score at High (3).

Plain-English summary

Polaris Industries is recalling approximately 21,000 Model Year 2024-2025 RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs) sold through Polaris dealers nationwide between April 2023 and July 2024. The vehicles are offered in black, blue, gray, red, and white colors in two-seat and four-seat configurations, priced between $20,900 and $29,900.

The recall addresses a defect in which the positive battery terminal cover (red) can become damaged by the seat base. When damaged, the cover fails to protect the battery post, allowing it to contact nearby conductive components and create an electrical short that can result in a fire hazard.

Polaris has received three reports of incidents related to this defect, including two reports of fires and one report of melted wires. No injuries have been reported.

Polaris is mailing a replacement full-battery cover to all registered owners at no charge. The cover can be self-installed or installed free of charge at an authorized Polaris dealer. Owners should verify their battery terminal cover is undamaged before operating the vehicle using the verification instructions provided by Polaris. If the cover is damaged, the vehicle should not be operated until the replacement is installed. Owners can contact Polaris at 1-800-765-2747 (Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT) or visit www.polaris.com/en-us/off-road-recalls/ to confirm whether their vehicle VIN is included in this recall.
