Energizer Large Power Indicator Lanterns Recalled Due to Lithium-Ion Battery Overheating

Energizer is recalling about 4,100 Large Power Indicator Lanterns with June 2024 date codes due to lithium-ion batteries that can overheat, posing a burn hazard. No injuries have been reported.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: One incident of lithium-ion battery overheating was confirmed, establishing a documented burn hazard. However, no injuries have been reported from the hazard. As a risk-of-harm product without reported injury, this qualifies as High severity per the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Energizer Holdings, Inc. is recalling the Energizer Large Power Indicator Lantern, model BGAAL9. About 4,100 affected lanterns are portable cone-shaped lights with an opaque lens, large power button, and red handle.

The lithium-ion batteries installed in these lanterns can overheat, creating a burn hazard to consumers. One incident of battery overheating has been reported, though no injuries have resulted to date.

Only lanterns with a June 2024 date code (identified by two circles on the base with arrows pointing to year '24' and month '6') are affected. The lanterns were sold at Meijer, Blain, and Fleet Wholesale stores nationwide and through Amazon.com between January and November 2025 for $35 to $45. Approximately 100 additional units were distributed to reviewers through the Bazaarvoice marketing program.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lanterns and contact Energizer for refund instructions. To receive a refund, consumers must register the recall with proof of the affected date code and return the lantern via prepaid shipping materials provided by Energizer. Contact Energizer toll-free at 800-383-7323 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday), email [email protected], or visit https://energizer.com/lightings/lanternrecall. The lithium-ion battery or lantern must not be disposed of in regular trash, curbside recycling, or battery recycling boxes; contact your municipal household hazardous waste center for proper disposal.
