2020-2021 Kia Stinger fuel pump defect causing engine power loss
Kia is recalling 2020-2021 Stinger vehicles because a fuel pump defect may block fuel flow to the engine, causing loss of power while driving and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a manufacturing defect affecting fuel delivery that could cause loss of engine power and increase crash risk. However, the source reports no illnesses or injuries, making the potential hazard theoretical rather than confirmed. Per the rubric, theoretical hazards without reported incidents score at most 3 (High).
Plain-English summary
Kia Motors America is recalling certain 2020 and 2021 Kia Stinger vehicles. The fuel pump's jet nozzle may contain a small plastic burr left from manufacturing that can block the nozzle and prevent sufficient fuel from flowing to the engine.
When the engine does not receive enough fuel, you may lose engine power while driving. This loss of power increases the risk of a crash.
Approximately 635 Kia Stinger vehicles are affected. Kia will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the fuel pump and replace the jet nozzle housing assembly if necessary at no cost. The recall began on October 29, 2020. For more information, contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
