2020-2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport TPMS Software Malfunction Recall
2020-2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport vehicles have incorrect TPMS pressure settings that prevent the warning light from activating when tire pressure drops dangerously low. Owners should contact Land Rover to schedule a free software update.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: No deaths or injuries are reported. This is a safety system malfunction where the hazard is currently theoretical—vehicles could experience tire tread separation and crash risk if operated with low tire pressure. Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products without reported injury score at most 3.
Plain-English summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2020 and 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with 20-inch, 21-inch, or 22-inch wheels. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) recommended pressure has been set incorrectly in the instrument cluster software. As a result, the TPMS warning light will not illuminate when tire pressure falls 25 percent below the pressure specified on the tire placard, potentially leaving drivers unaware of unsafe tire conditions.
When drivers unknowingly operate vehicles with low tire pressure, the tires are at risk of tread separation, which increases the risk of a crash.
Approximately 11,159 vehicles are affected. Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the instrument cluster software at no charge. The recall remedy began November 2, 2020. Owners can contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
