Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a risk-of-harm situation where the defective HVAC control could cause windshield defrost failure, reducing driver visibility and increasing crash risk. Plain-English summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2022 Kenworth T680, T880, and W990 trucks. The HVAC control head units in these vehicles may have insufficient soldering between the potentiometer(s) and the printed circuit board assembly. This defect can cause the windshield defrost system to become inoperative.

An inoperative windshield defrost system may reduce driver visibility, particularly in conditions where frost or fog accumulates on the windshield. Reduced visibility increases the risk of a crash occurring.

Approximately 6,916 vehicles are affected by this recall. Owners were notified beginning in September 2021. PACCAR dealerships will replace the HVAC control head free of charge. Remedy parts became available in June 2022.
