2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Recalled for Sticking EGR Valve

Chrysler is recalling 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles due to EGR valve defects that may cause loss of drive power and increase crash risk. Dealers will provide free replacement.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The EGR valve defect is a structural vehicle defect that may cause unexpected loss of drive power and increase crash risk. Structural vehicle defects meet the Severe criterion in the rubric regardless of whether injuries have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2021 Dodge Durango, 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2021-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles equipped with 3.6L engines. The issue involves the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve assembly.

The EGR valve may stick open. When this occurs, it causes an unexpected loss of drive power, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

Owners of affected vehicles should contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule a dealer appointment. Dealers will replace the EGR valve assembly free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 23, 2022.

For additional information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
