2022 Chrysler and Dodge vehicles recalled for tire pressure monitoring sensor failure

Chrysler and Dodge are recalling certain 2022 vehicles because TPMS sensors may fail prematurely, causing them to stop alerting drivers to low tire pressure. This can lead to tire failure and increase crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting a safety-critical system. Although no injuries or crashes have been reported, the defect can result in tire failure and increased crash risk. Such safety-system defects are classified as Severe per the recall rubric.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300 vehicles. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors in these vehicles may experience premature battery failure, making the sensors inoperative. Approximately 52,340 vehicles are affected.

When TPMS sensors fail, they no longer alert drivers to low tire pressure conditions. Additionally, a warning light from a failed sensor battery can mask an actual tire pressure failure, preventing drivers from recognizing the problem. These scenarios can result in tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and replace TPMS sensors as necessary at no charge to vehicle owners. Owners should contact FCA US, LLC at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule service. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 2, 2022. For additional information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
