2022 Chrysler 300 and Dodge vehicles TPMS sensor battery failure
Chrysler and Dodge are recalling certain 2022 models because the tire pressure monitoring system sensor battery may fail prematurely, potentially increasing the risk of tire failure and crashes.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a documented structural vehicle defect where TPMS sensor batteries are failing prematurely, creating a real risk of tire failure and increased crash risk. However, no deaths, serious injuries, or property damage have been reported, limiting the severity to High (Score 3) per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler and Dodge are recalling certain 2022 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger vehicles due to a defect in the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor. The TPMS sensor battery may fail prematurely, causing the sensor to become inoperative and stop warning drivers of low tire pressure.
An inoperative TPMS sensor will not alert the driver when tire pressure is low. Additionally, if the warning light from the failed sensor is already illuminated, it may mask a subsequent actual tire pressure failure. Either scenario can result in tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.
The recall affects approximately 44,212 vehicles. Owners who received notification letters in December 2022 should contact their Chrysler or Dodge dealer. Dealers will inspect and replace TPMS sensors at no charge. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC at 1-800-853-1403, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
