2023 Honda CR-V Passenger Seat Back Frame Welding Defect
Honda is recalling 2023 CR-V vehicles due to improper welding of the front passenger seat back frame, which may fail in a crash and increase injury risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting crash safety with no reported injuries or failures to date. The improper welding could cause seat back failure in a crash, creating a clear risk of harm, but the hazard remains theoretical without confirmed failures or injuries.
Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2023 CR-V vehicles with approximately 98 affected units. The front passenger seat back frame assembly may not have been welded properly during manufacturing.
If improperly welded, the seat back may fail to maintain its position during a crash. This failure could result in inadequate restraint of the occupant and increased risk of injury. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards numbers 207 (Seating Systems) and 201 (Occupant Protection in Interior Impact).
Owners have been notified by mail as of March 27, 2023. Dealers will replace the front passenger seat back frame assembly free of charge. Affected owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
