Rivian is recalling certain 2022 R1S and R1T vehicles due to a faulty automatic locking retractor (ALR) sensor in the front passenger seat belt system. The sensor may incorrectly report as ON when it is actually OFF.

As a result, the air bag may be suppressed or fail to deploy properly during a crash. This violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 for occupant crash protection and increases the risk of injury to the front passenger.
