2024 Porsche Cayenne Rear Lighting Control Software Defect Recall
Certain 2024 Porsche Cayenne models may fail to illuminate rear hazard warning and parking lights when activated shortly after engine shutdown. This defect reduces vehicle visibility and increases crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm recall involving a safety-critical lighting control defect. Although no injuries or crashes have been reported, the failure of rear hazard warning and parking lights creates a clear safety hazard by reducing vehicle visibility. The source explicitly does not report any incidents, placing this in the 'High' category per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Porsche Cars North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2024 Porsche Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne Coupe, Cayenne Turbo GT, and Cayenne S Coupe vehicles. The affected vehicles have a gateway control unit software issue that can prevent the rear hazard warning lights and parking lights from illuminating if activated within 10 seconds after the vehicle is turned off.
This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 regarding lamps and reflective devices. When rear lighting fails to illuminate, the vehicle's visibility to other drivers is reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.
Approximately 2,934 vehicles are affected by this recall. Porsche dealers will update the gateway control unit software free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on September 26, 2023.
Owners with concerns can contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's internal recall number is APB1. For additional information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
