Freightliner and Mercedes Sprinter paint defect causes window and rail detachment

Daimler Vans USA, LLC is recalling certain 2021-2023 Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. The topcoat paint formula used on these vehicles may cause the windows and interior lashing rails to be insufficiently bonded to the vehicle structure.

An insufficiently bonded window can detach during a crash. Objects secured to an insufficiently bonded interior lashing rail can also detach, increasing the risk of injury to occupants. The recall affects 131 vehicles across multiple model years and configurations.

Dealers will inspect the paint adhesion and repair it as necessary at no charge to the owner. Depending on the extent of damage, Daimler Vans USA may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 4, 2024.
