Winnebago Sunstar Motorhome Wiring Defect Disables Safety Systems
Winnebago is recalling certain 2023-2025 Sunstar motorhomes because wiring was incorrectly routed, potentially damaging the forward-facing camera. This can disable active brake assist, lane keep assist, and auto high beams, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a confirmed structural vehicle defect that disables multiple active safety systems (brake assist, lane keep assist, auto high beams). Although the hazard and direct consequences are real, no crashes, injuries, or deaths have been reported. It meets the criterion of a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Winnebago Industries is recalling certain 2023, 2024, and 2025 Sunstar motorhomes, as well as affected Vista and Adventurer models built on F53 chassis. Approximately 443 units are affected by this recall.
During manufacturing, wiring may have been incorrectly routed, potentially damaging the forward-facing camera wiring. This defect can disable multiple vehicle safety systems, including active brake assist, lane keep assist, and auto high beams.
When the camera wiring is damaged and the camera becomes inoperable, the related safety systems fail. This disables critical driver assistance features and increases the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported to date.
Owners were notified by Winnebago beginning October 4, 2024. Dealers will reroute the wiring at no charge to the owner. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-3535 (reference number 187) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
