About 272,000 units have been sold nationwide through medical supply stores and online retailers including Amazon and Walmart. The bed rails were sold from October 2006 through December 2021 for between $36 and $98. One entrapment death has been reported involving model P1410 in December 2012, involving an 86-year-old man at his home in California.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails. For bed rails sold or imported on or after November 1, 2015, Essential Medical Supply will provide a refund calculated on a pro-rated basis based on the age of the bed rail. For older bed rails sold between October 2006 and October 2015, consumers should stop use, disassemble, and dispose of the rails to prevent reuse.
