International and IC Bus commercial vehicles recalled for fuel rail assembly defect
Navistar is recalling certain 2018-2021 International and IC Bus commercial vehicles due to a fuel rail assembly defect. A sealing washer may not seat correctly, allowing fuel leaks that could ignite.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: Structural vehicle defect in a critical safety system (fuel delivery) with documented fire risk. Structural defects in commercial truck fuel systems meet NHTSA severity criteria for serious safety hazards, regardless of whether injuries have been reported to date.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling approximately 1,780 commercial vehicles that may have a defect in the fuel rail assembly. The affected vehicles are 2018–2021 International WorkStar, DuraStar, HV, and MV commercial trucks, as well as IC Bus RE commercial buses.
The sealing washer in the high-pressure fuel rail assembly may not seat correctly in the pilot bore holes. This can allow diesel fuel to leak from the fuel system.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Dealers will inspect the rail threads and replace the fuel rail assembly as necessary at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 21, 2021. Owners should contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 to schedule service.
