What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting critical safety systems (brakes and stability control). Per the rubric, risk-of-harm products where injury has not been reported score a 3. No deaths, injuries, or crashes have been reported in the source material.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2021 Audi E-Tron Quattro and E-Tron Sportback Quattro vehicles. Corrosion in the brake booster may cause the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), speedometer display, and brake assist to stop functioning.
If the brake booster corrodes, drivers will lose braking assist, ABS, and ESC. This increases the effort and distance required to stop the vehicle, significantly raising the risk of a crash.
Owners should contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834 or visit www.nhtsa.gov to learn more. Dealers will replace the brake booster free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 30, 2021.
