2023-2024 Peterbilt 579 trucks recalled for parking brake failure risk

PACCAR is recalling 2023-2024 Peterbilt 579 trucks because the parking brake module may fail to engage, creating a vehicle rollaway and crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle safety defect affecting the parking brake system. The defective parking brake valve module can cause vehicle rollaway and increase crash risk, satisfying the Severe (Score 4) criterion of 'structural vehicle defect.'

Plain-English summary

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain 2023 and 2024 Peterbilt 579 trucks. The Intellipark Tractor Park Valve Module (PVM) may intermittently become stuck in the un-parked position and fail to move into the park position when the park switch is activated.

A PVM that fails to move into park can cause a vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners have been notified by letter, mailed June 12, 2023. Dealers will replace the faulty PVM with a new corrected part, free of charge. Owners can contact PACCAR customer service at 1-940-591-4220 to arrange service, or call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
