2023 Dodge Durango Shifter Interference Can Cause Sudden Power Loss

Chrysler is recalling certain 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicles because the shifter may slip out of gear while driving, causing sudden loss of drive power and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: No reported injuries or crashes related to this defect; however, the risk of sudden power loss while driving presents a credible crash hazard, meeting the threshold for a high-severity risk-of-harm recall.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2023 Dodge Durango Pursuit vehicles equipped with an instrument panel mounted shifter. In these vehicles, the shifter may experience interference with the shifter boot and slip out of gear while driving.

When the shifter slips out of gear while driving, the vehicle loses drive power suddenly. This can significantly increase the risk of a crash.

If you own one of these vehicles, contact an authorized Dodge dealer to have the shifter boot replaced for free. Owner notification letters were mailed starting November 7, 2023. For more information, contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
