Radio software may disable rearview camera in multiple Chrysler vehicle models
Certain 2021-2023 Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, and Dodge vehicles have defective radio software that may prevent the rearview camera from displaying, reducing driver visibility when backing up.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a safety-critical system (rear visibility) where the documented hazard—loss of rearview camera display—directly increases crash risk. However, no injuries or illnesses have been reported. Per the rubric, this qualifies as 'High' severity (3) for a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Dodge Durango, 2021-2023 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager, 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, 2022-2023 Jeep Compass, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer, 2022-2023 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, and ProMaster vehicles. The radio software in these vehicles may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying on the vehicle display screen.
This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #111 (Rear Visibility). When the rearview camera image does not display, the driver's visibility of the area behind the vehicle is reduced. This loss of visibility increases the risk of a collision when backing up.
Chryler will fix this problem at no cost to owners. Dealers will update the radio software, or the software will be provided as an over-the-air (OTA) update.
