Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick Control Module Battery Detection Failure

Ford is recalling 2021-2024 Bronco Sports and 2022-2023 Mavericks because control modules may fail to detect low 12-volt battery charge, potentially causing loss of drive power and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a vehicle control module defect that creates risk of crash by potentially disabling drive power or electrical systems. No injuries or deaths have been reported, and the source does not classify this as Class I or II. Per the rubric, when no illnesses or injuries are reported and the hazard is potential rather than actual, the maximum score is 3.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles. The recall affects approximately 48,041 vehicles. The body control module and power train control module in these vehicles may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.

This defect was identified in vehicles that were previously repaired incorrectly under recall 24V-267. The modules' failure to detect battery state changes was not properly corrected in that previous service campaign.

If a battery's low charge state goes undetected, the vehicle may lose electrical accessories such as hazard lights or lose drive power entirely. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to schedule a service appointment. Dealers will recalibrate the body and power train control modules at no cost. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 23, 2025. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236.
