BMW and Toyota vehicles recalled for engine starter relay fire hazard
BMW is recalling certain 2019-2022 Z4, 330i, 430i, 530i, and X3/X4 models, along with 2020-2022 Toyota Supra. The engine starter relay may corrode and short circuit, creating a fire risk.

BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2019-2022 BMW vehicles including the Z4, 330i, 430i, 530i, and X3/X4 models. Additionally, Toyota Supra models from 2020-2022 are included in this recall. A total of approximately 199,674 vehicles are potentially affected.
The engine starter relay in these vehicles may corrode over time. This corrosion can cause the relay to overheat and short circuit, which increases the risk of a vehicle fire.
BMW owners were mailed notification letters on February 6, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in the recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov starting November 14, 2025.
The remedy is free of charge. Owners should contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule the replacement of their engine starter relay. As a precaution, owners are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the remedy is completed.
