2025 Toyota Tundra Rear Camera Software Defect Increases Crash Risk

2024-2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles with Panoramic View Monitor systems may have rearview cameras that fail to display in reverse, violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111. This defect increases the risk of backing crashes.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The defect affects a critical safety system (rear visibility per FMVSS 111) and increases crash risk. However, no injuries, illnesses, or property damage have been reported, so the hazard is theoretical rather than actualized.

Plain-English summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling certain 2024-2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor system. The rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse.

This defect fails to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, which requires proper rear visibility. The missing camera image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash when backing.
