2024 Nissan Rogue Engine Failure Risk: Oil Degradation and Bearing Seizure

Nissan is recalling 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles with 1.5L VC-Turbo engines because increased engine temperatures can break down oil, causing bearing seizure and engine failure, which may result in loss of drive power or engine fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This recall qualifies as Severe because it involves a structural defect in safety-critical engine components. The defect can result in engine failure leading to loss of drive power (crash risk) or engine fire, representing significant safety hazards.

Plain-English summary

Nissan is recalling certain 2024 Nissan Rogue vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L variable compression turbo engines. This recall also applies to 2023 and 2025 model year Rogues with this engine type. The recall number is 26V080000 and expands a previous NHTSA recall (25V437). Approximately 323,917 vehicles are affected.

The engines in question can experience increased temperatures that break down the engine oil. When the oil degrades, it cannot properly protect the engine bearings. This can cause the bearings to seize and become damaged, ultimately leading to engine failure.

If an engine fails while driving, the vehicle loses drive power, which increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, if a bearing fails and causes a breach in the engine block, hot oil may be discharged, increasing the risk of engine fire.

Owners who received notification letters mailed on April 8, 2026 should contact Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261 or visit a Nissan dealer. Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle at no cost. Dealers may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris and replace the engine if necessary. All repairs are performed free of charge. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved are searchable on NHTSA.gov as of February 27, 2026.
