Mazda CX-90 and CX-70 electrical supply unit software defect recall

Mazda is recalling select 2024-2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 models for a dashboard electrical unit software issue that may disable safety functions during startup, increasing crash risk. Dealers will reprogram the unit free of charge.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves safety-critical systems (seat belt warning, 360-degree view monitor) that may fail due to a software defect, presenting increased crash risk. However, no crashes, injuries, or deaths have been reported, making this a risk-of-harm scenario without demonstrated injury.

Plain-English summary

Mazda North American Operations is recalling certain 2024 and 2025 Mazda CX-90 vehicles and 2025 Mazda CX-70 vehicles equipped with a Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU). The ESU contains software that may malfunction during vehicle startup.

When the ESU malfunctions, the defroster, seat belt warning system, 360-degree view monitor, and PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly. Mazda states that an ESU that does not function properly increases the risk of a crash.

Approximately 80,915 vehicles are potentially affected by this recall. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 18, 2024.

Owners should contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6 to schedule a service appointment. Dealers will reprogram the Dash ESU with improved software at no cost. Additional information is available at www.nhtsa.gov or by calling the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
